Camera Profiles

What is the best profile to use for my camera?

This question does not usually have an easy answer, as different cameras have a lot of technical nuances, and the result depends on many factors - white balance accuracy, ISO selection, quality of lighting, scene contrast, grading style, etc.

Therefore, the choice of shooting format is at the discretion of the cameraman, who knows well the capabilities and limitations of his hardware and has performed appropriate experiments in the field and on post.

How does Dehancer perform with my camera?

There is no problem for Dehancer to color grade any normal contrast source. Just select Rec.709 as Input and use Film Developer to adjust any source abnormalities.

I don't see the latest camera profiles inside the plug-in. Why?

Please make sure to update your camera profiles by clicking on the [Check Profiles] button. If it still doesn't appear, please let us know and we will look into it with our support team.

I don't like the built-in camera profile in Dehancer or my camera is not supported. What should I do?

If your camera is not on the list, or the built-in profile does not suit you for some reason, you still have a dozen options for interpreting the source: Input camera profiles in Dehancer, Color Space Transform, Input Device Transform (ACES), camera vendor Luts, Camera RAW settings, manual de-Log, etc. Each method has its own benefits and drawbacks. You can choose and adjust your interpretation, according to the characteristics of the particular clip and shooting conditions. If you have decent quality source material, there is no fundamental difference between the workflows in terms of the amount of useful data that can be extracted from your clip.

Also keep in mind that Dehancer has recently introduced a new Film Developer tool that allows for a wide range of contrast and color control, making the interpretation of challenging footage more flexible.

I do use a BlackMagic 6K Gen 5 camera and I would like to know what would be the perfect camera profile in Davinci to make it look fully prepared for a cinematic look with Dehancer.

We are constantly working on new camera support, stay tuned for announcements. Meanwhile, you can use any available means (CST, IDT, factory Luts, manual de-Log) for interpreting your source material in Rec.709 for further processing with Dehancer.

I'm working with photos and my photo camera is not on the list. Will I be able to use Dehancer and how?

Our camera list contains those cameras, for which we have the Log to Rec.709 video interpretation profiles. Hence, our camera support is for video only, moreover, one doesn’t have to use our profiles with video, since there are various way of Log interpretation outside of Dehancer.

So far, you don’t need any camera profiles to use Dehancer for photos. Any normal contrast source is good enough, from camera JPG to RAW. At this point, you need to convert RAW files yourself in any familiar way. In the future RAW support will be implemented in our new desktop product.
