About
Fujifilm Instax instant photo technology is described in detail here . The addition of 'Digital Intermediate' to the profile name means that it was built around a so-called hybrid process, where an analog photo is scanned and then processed in a certain way in a graphic editor.
Digital Intermediate film does not actually exist as a hard medium. The hybrid process produces a graphic file that is of analog origin, which is subsequently corrected on a computer. This file can be viewed on a computer screen or printed on paper, for example using digital inkjet or
digital photolab.
When Fujifilm Instax instant photo prints are scanned on a calibrated scanner, the calibrated monitor displays an image that closely resembles the look of a real Instax print under ideal lighting conditions.
At the same time, the histogram of this scan (without the white frame) indicates that the black and white points do not reach the maximum values, i.e. there is a room for increasing the contrast of this image.
This is a fairly typical tonal range for an Instax scan, so it's common for such scans to increase the contrast in a graphics editor.
If you do this correcting individual channels in RGB and carefully compensating for the typical Instax tint, you get a high-contrast, saturated, color-balanced and saturated image with good skin tone.
This makes the half analog and yet half digital profile Fujifilm Instax (Digital Intermediate).
This profile is experimental. We recommend that you use it with caution and always keep in mind that it significantly increases contrast. This means that your image will most likely need to be properly adjusted to befor applying this profile. For example, if the contrast is excessive, you can reduce it using the Film Developer tool in Dehancer or in the previous DaVinci Resolve node.
